L. Carolyn Gunther, age 78, died on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Mandrin House in Harwood, MD. She was born on January 3, 1934 in Washington, D.C. to the late Dr. John Thomas and Lela E. (Evelyn) McVearry and was the second of five children. She graduated from the University of Maryland and was a teacher for Prince George’s County Schools. She substituted for Anne Arundel County Schools, and helped out at Annapolis RV. Carolyn was married to the late Dr. William B. Gunther who was a family physician in College Park. She was a caregiver to her husband who had cancer and later to her mother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, dining out, Bingo, shopping and the daily news. She is survived by her son, Thomas Gunther, daughter-in-law, Lisa Gunther, grandson, Thomas (TJ) Gunther, Jr., brother, Dr. John (Joan) McVearry, Jr., sister, Eleanor Whittaker, brother, Bryant (Lynda) McVearry, two nephews, and friend Rhonda Gross. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and Sister Elaine Hartman. A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 1st from 9:30 to 11am with a Memorial Service at 11am at GASCH’S FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD. Interment will follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carolyn’s name to Mandrin Inpatient Care Center, 3675 Solomons Island Road, Harwood, MD 20776.
